I earned my PhD in Human Medical Genetics & Genomics from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I trained as a developmental geneticist with Dr. Kristin Artinger. For my dissertation, I studied the role of a transcription factor, PRDM1, in limb development and a congenital limb disease called Split Hand/Foot Malformation using zebrafish as a model.
I realized that while I love developmental biology, my true passion lies in science communication. My skillset was best suited for fostering more transparent communication between scientists and the general public. As a writer, my goal is to make science more accessible. From 2022-2023, I was a Science Communication intern with the Society for Developmental Biology and wrote profile pieces and editorials for the e-newsletter. I recently finished a AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellowship at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I am now a freelance science writer/editor. |
